Life Begins at Fifty One and a Half...

At the beginning of January 2014 I was thrust into a new phase of my life. My grown-up children had left home, my long-term relationship ended and for the first time in my life I was single and home alone. Now what?!

I'd been clinging onto my 40s and was utterly in denial about my 50s. In fact, after forty nine I was, in my mind, forty ten....and then forty eleven... However, 'changes of circumstances' often provoke a reality check, so with great reluctance (and after a quick check of my birth certificate), I had to finally admit that I was in fact fifty one and a half.

Even when a break-up has been a long time coming, the actual event is still a shock to the system and the process of parting company with all that has been familiar for many years takes a great deal of getting used to. Once the initial 'twilight zone' phase has passed, and you're ready to face the world again, there are an unimaginable amount of hurdles to cross before you can finally 'move on' and start beginning the next chapter in your life.
